Georgia’s first statewide survey of bald eagle nests in five years showed the national bird nesting in record numbers, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Survey flights this winter and spring to find and monitor nesting bald eagles counted 229 nest territories. That tops the previous high of 218 set in 2017, survey leader Dr. Bob Sargent said.

After nearly seven years at TennGreen Land Conservancy, Executive Director Steve Law has announced his intention to retire at the end of September.
This change comes at a time when the organization is achieving tremendous success and is poised for the next generation of leadership. To ensure a smooth and effective transition, Alice Hudson Pell will advance from Associate Director of TennGreen Land Conservancy to Interim Executive Director effective September 16th.

Birds are at risk from a variety of diseases that can flourish when birds flock to neglected feeders.
Wildlife biologist Todd Schneider of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said the public can help by cleaning their feeders regularly. “A hygienic bird feeder can reduce the risk tremendously.”
