On Feb. 27, 2009, a group of interested parties met at the Pot Point House in the TN River Gorge to discuss the development of a comprehensive outdoor recreation plan for the TN River Gorge area. The meeting was organized by Jeff Duncan of the National Park Service's Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program, who is helping to facilitate the project.
The 14 participants represented the National Park Service-RTCA, the Tennessee River Gorge Trust, Marion County Greenways and Trails Committee, the Southeastern Off Road Bicycle Association, Southern Backcountry Horsemen, the TN Dept. of Environment and Conservation, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Trust for Public Land, and the TN Div. of Forestry.
The goal of the plan is to enhance the potential of the TN River Gorge area to be a premier outdoor recreation destination through the development of recreational trails and improved access, while continuing to preserve the natural resources and wild character of the gorge.
