According to a recent report at Nooga.com, 943 million dollars was spent on wildlife watching activities in Tennessee in 2011. This is revealed in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's 2011 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation Report. The report states that two million people in Tennesee age 16 and older watched wildlife in 2011 in away-from-home activities.
This compares with 375,000 hunters spending 494 million dollars on hunting related activities in Tennessee in 2011. (This is not to denigrate hunting, but to emphasize the popularity of wildlife watching)
I'm unable to include a link to the report at this time because of the government shutdown.
