Nickajack Lake Paddle -- Nov. 5

  The Chattanooga Sea Kayakers (CSK) will host an afternoon paddle on the north shore of Nickajack Lake on Sat., Nov. 5 beginning at 1:00 p.m..  The three hour trip will begin at the TVA Shellmound Recreation Area off of exit 158 on I-24.  Kayakers should dress appropriately for winter paddling and be prepared for wind and waves.  All participants are responsible for their own safety.  The group will eat supper at the Tiftonia Cracker Barrel afterwards.  If the trip is cancelled due to bad weather, there will be a post on the CSK Facebook page.

Prentice Cooper Hunt Dates

  The western section of Prentice Cooper State Forest (west of Hwy. 27, or Suck Creek Rd.) will be closed to all users except hunters on Oct. 29 - 30, Nov. 4 - 6, and Nov. 26 - Dec. 1.  Areas east of Hwy. 27, including Edwards Point, will remain open to the general public.

Alliance for the Cumberlands Fall Meeting

  The Alliance for the Cumberlands' Fall Meeting will take place Wed., Nov. 2nd from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Central Time at the historic Beersheba Springs Hotel in Grundy County.  The meeting will focus on efforts in environmental conservation and historic preservation in the Cumberland region, and will include a number of presentations by people actively involved in these efforts.

  If you're not familiar with the Alliance and would like to become aquainted, this will be a great opportunity.  Those who wish to attend are asked to RSVP by Oct. 17.  To learn more and to see a meeting agenda, click here.

   

East TN River Valley Geotourism Site Still Taking Nominations

  The National Geographic Society's East Tennessee River Valley Geotourism MapGuide is still taking nominations for sites.  There is still room for more places in the South Cumberland area which should be, but haven't yet been, nominated, such as Prentice Cooper State Forest.  To make a nomnation or to learn more, visit the website.
